Frequently Asked Questions

Getting Started:

I don't know where to start. Is that okay?

It's one of the most common things I hear. Most women arrive having already done a lot of searching, and still feeling lost. That's exactly what the first consultation is for. We start by understanding your full picture, work out where the foundations of your health need support, and build from there. You don't need to arrive with answers. Just arrive.

I've been told my results are normal, but I feel terrible. Can I still come to you?

Yes. You're describing the experience of so many of the women I see. "In range" and "feeling well" are answers to two different questions, and the gap between normal and optimal is often where the answer sits. If you've been told everything looks normal but you know something isn't right, that's exactly where we start.

Where do you start with treatment?

Foundations first. Sleep, digestion, stress and hormonal patterns are what everything else rests on, and if they're out of balance, adding more on top rarely works. Once the foundations are steady, we build from there, simply and specifically. Never a scattergun of twenty changes at once.

Understanding Your Care

What is Chinese medicine?

Chinese medicine is its own complete system for understanding the body. It isn't a variation on Western medicine, but a genuinely different lens on how the body works and what keeps it well. Acupuncture is one tool within that system, but it's far from the only one: herbal medicine, dietary therapy and lifestyle guidance all sit inside the same framework. When people hear "Chinese medicine," they often picture needles and nothing else. In practice, it's a whole way of reading patterns in the body, and acupuncture is just one of the ways that gets applied.

What is functional medicine?

Functional medicine looks at optimal health, not just the absence of disease. Rather than only asking whether something is wrong, it asks whether everything is actually working well, using testing and a detailed history to understand how your body's systems relate to each other. It's one of the three lenses, alongside Chinese medicine and Western reproductive medicine, that shapes how I work with you.

What does an integrative approach actually mean?

It means no single system of medicine has all the answers, and your care shouldn't pretend otherwise. I hold a double degree in Human Biology and Chinese Medicine and a Masters of Reproductive Medicine, with ongoing training in functional medicine. In practice, your symptoms are looked at through several lenses at once, and your plan draws on the combination best suited to you, your life and your budget.

What is functional medicine, and how is it different to what my GP does?

Functional medicine is concerned with optimal health, not just the absence of disease. Where a standard blood test confirms you're within a normal range, functional medicine asks where you sit within that range, how your results relate to each other, and what that might mean for how you're actually feeling. It's investigative rather than reactive, and it works alongside your GP's care rather than replacing it. The questions are simply different, and for hormonal health those questions matter.

Why do you focus so much on tracking and data?

Because your body is already telling the story. It just needs to be read properly. Tracking your cycles, sleep, energy and symptoms over time gives us real information to work with rather than a single snapshot. It also gives you something that lasts: the ability to read your own patterns and make informed decisions. You shouldn't need a master's degree to understand what's happening inside you.

Appointments & Fees

What's the difference between seeing you in person and online?

Very little. Both offer the same depth of consultation, the same integrative approach and the same treatment planning. The one difference is acupuncture, which is available in clinic only. Chinese medicine is much broader than acupuncture alone: diet, lifestyle, herbal support and supplement guidance are all available however we work together.

Can I claim a private health rebate?

Acupuncture consultations are rebatable through many private health funds, usually under extras cover. How much you receive back depends on your fund and your level of cover, so it's worth a quick check with them before your appointment.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly through the website.

Clinically guided. Individually tailored.
